James Woodward (Mach Drive

i had a professor
38:52
at nyu melvin reuterman who i asked some
38:56
questions about general relativity once
38:58
and i told him i was having a hard time
39:00
with it because you know i'm not that
39:02
smart
39:03
and he said oh worry about it everybody
39:05
has a hard time with it
39:07
you know even those who are really smart
39:10
have a hard time with it
39:12
he said

39:20
let me finish the story he said if you
39:22
want to be the world's expert in
39:24
something pick a really hard problem
39:26
and be prepared to work on it for years
39:30
okay he said really smart people you
39:33
don't have to worry about because they
39:34
won't
39:35
try and scoop you until you've shown
39:38
that you can actually do
39:39
something with it
39:42
and he was right there are a lot of us
39:46
out there trying to figure out how to do
39:48
this

Woodward claims that his hypothesis predicts physical forces that he calls Mach effects but are also referred to as the Woodward effect. He says that his hypothesis is based on Mach's principle that posits inertia, the resistance of mass to acceleration, is a result of the mutual gravitational attraction of all matter in the universe. Thus, if the mass of a given object can be varied while being oscillated in a linear or orbital path, such that the mass is high while the mass is moving in one direction and low while moving back, then the net effect should be acceleration in one direction as the inertial drag of the universe upon the object varies as its mass varies. If a spacecraft engine could be designed to exploit it then acceleration could be produced without using rocket engine propellants.

ref: James F. Woodward - Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_F._Woodward#Woodward_effect

Michio Kaku :

35:15
here's what i wanted to know why is
35:17
there something instead of nothing
35:20
well if you take a look at the charge
35:24
of the universe that is you know pluses
35:26
and minuses they cancel
35:28
we learned that in elementary school
35:29
pluses and minus charges cancel
35:31
so the net charge of the universe is
35:33
zero the net spin of the universe is
35:35
also zero
35:36
you calculate the spin of all the
35:37
galaxies they sum up to zero
35:40
the net matter energy of the universe is
35:42
also zero
35:44
negative energy of gravity cancels the
35:46
positive energy of atoms
35:48
giving you net energy of zero
35:52
so our universe is consistent with zero
35:55
zero charge zero spin and zero mass
35:58
energy
35:59
this is an experimental fact meaning
36:02
that
36:03
our universe probably came from nothing
36:06
our universe well the bible talks about
36:08
a mist right
36:09
the universe probably came from nothing
36:11
a quantum fluctuation in the vacuum
36:13
now stephen hawking called this the
36:15
space-time foam
36:17
that if i have a super microscope i can
36:20
see that the vacuum is full of these
36:22
little bubbles
36:23
popping out of nothing and these bubbles
36:25
well one day one of these bubbles just
36:27
kept on going
36:28
expanded and expanded and became our
36:30
universe most of these
36:32
other bubbles pop into existence and pop

Michio Kaku : multi-verse

the multiverse is our true home
36:46
that's where we came from we came from
36:49
nothing

(*1)

this is called inflation theory and it's
32:32
consistent with all the cosmological
32:34
evidence all our satellite data
32:37
indicates that perhaps there are other
32:39
parallel universes out there
32:41
and we're going to measure this we're
32:42
going to send a satellite called lisa
32:44
into orbit it's the laser interferometry
32:46
space antenna
32:48
and it's going to pick up it's going to
32:50
pick up perhaps
32:51
baby pictures baby pictures of the
32:54
infant
32:54
universe as it emerges from the womb
32:58
and maybe just maybe we'll find evidence
33:00
of an umbilical cord
33:01
an umbilical cord connecting our infant
33:04
universe in the womb
33:05
to a parent universe and again this is
33:08
the goal one of the goals of the
33:10
of lisa sponsored by the european space
33:13
agency and also
33:15
nasa to actually maybe verify
33:18
the existence of parallel universes this
33:21
is not science fiction anymore
33:23
this is hard science
